Story
I am so grateful for the chance complete my fourth World Marathon Major as a member of #TeamBreathe!
When I was in elementary school, my Grandpa Bert died of lung cancer and it was a major turning point for our family. While not related to us by blood, Grandpa Bert was a loving partner to my Grandma for more than 15 years and the only Grandpa I'd ever known on my mom's side. My grandparents met in recovery and I didn't know it at the time, but their time together was their only true era of stability. The lung cancer moved fast and even at just 10-years old I will never forget the sight of Grandpa Bert's suffering. Within just a few months of his diagnosis Grandpa Bert was gone, and our family was left to pick up the pieces.
Now, as I look back on my life as an athlete, I am especially conscious of the importance of lung health to my ability to participate in the sports and activities I love. From figure skating and ballet, to RUNNING, hiking, and more, healthy lungs have carried me through so many incredible life experiences. I'm excited for the chance to support an organization working to ensure everyone's lungs are strong enough to do the same.
1 in 5 people will experience a lung condition during their lifetime, a number that is likely to increase with climate change. Asthma + Lung UK fights for everyone's right to breathe by investing in research, providing lifesaving education, and building supportive online and in-person community resources. Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UKs nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice.
Thank you so much!
