It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Hi all, on the 22nd July 2017 (coincidentally my birthday) I'll be taking part in the AJ Bell London Triathlon, specifically the Olympic distance of 1.5km swim, 40km cycle, and 10km run.

I’m raising money for PCUK because my Grandma was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer back in October. Before that I hadn't heard a great deal about this particular cancer, but after it affected my family I started to read into it and found some quite shocking information.

Pancreatic cancer affects all ages equally, and only has a 5-year survival rate of roughly 4% with over ¾ of people afflicted dying in their first year. It is hard to diagnose early and it is frequently misdiagnosed until it is far too late, as it has almost no symptoms in the early stages and by the time it is diagnosed there is very little that can be done for the patient.

The charity is specifically funding research into unique pancreatic cancer cures and potential treatments, and importantly the charity is also funding research into early diagnosis methods that could
be a massive game changer in catching the disease early enough to make a significant difference.

Hopefully the money raised can help towards research into earlier diagnosis methods so more people don't find out until it is far too late.
