A few years ago a good friend of mine was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer while in his early 40’s.

It was only while discussing the illness with him that I became aware of how common the disease is amongst men, and that age is nothing to do with who can develop the illness

Thanks to the wonders of surgery, mainly supported by private donations, my friend has now recovered, but his story inspired me to sign up for the 2018 ‘Football to Amsterdam’ bike ride.

During the fund raising for that event I met a lot of people, both male and female, who told me how much their lives had been affected when Fathers, Uncles, Brothers and Sons had been diagnosed with the disease and they were grateful that PCUK were helping to raise awareness and look for ways to develop a cure and early diagnosis.

It was also surprising how many men who made donations had actually been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and were actually in the process of receiving treatment or had completed the treatment

The bike ride by football supporters from Sheffield to Amsterdam is to help raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. The money raised is used to aid treatment, research and awareness of the disease.

As a keen amateur footballer in my younger years who has now taken up cycling while remaining a football fan and someone who has been touched by this disease, I have a number of factors motivating me to do this ride and would be grateful for any donations you are able to make which will go towards detection, treatment and research into Prostate Cancer in the UK

Here's a bit of background about the ride:

The official ride starts from Hillsborough, the home of Sheffield Wednesday FC on Friday 10th June 2022 and we cycle North East to Hull. An overnight Ferry Crossing from Hull sees us arrive in Rotterdam on the morning of Saturday 11th June and we then cycle from Rotterdam to the Amsterdam Arena, the home of Ajax FC.

To make it more of a challenge, a small group of us have decided to cycle from our respective home addresses in Derbyshire all the way to Amsterdam. We will therefore be setting off the day before the official ride and cycling from respective starting points to Sheffield, 

In total over the 3 days we should cover some 210 miles in aid of this cause.
