Story
About 13 years ago my brother Keir was in a car crash and broke his neck. He was taken to Sheffield Princess Royal Spinal Unit where they looked after him and continued to rehabilitate him intensively for a whole year... he still visits now for regular check ups and operations.
I wanted to raise money for the wards to say thank you for looking after my brother but also to enable them to keep up this great work and help others in the same position. Also for entertaining me for a year we used to visit most nights in the week and they would let me use the sportshall to try wheelchair basketball - very difficult!
This bike ride is also a chance to say to my brother - "you are amazing and you are an inspiration for me to keep on rolling!"
The money we raise will go the the Spinal Unit in Sheffield which is one of only two units in the UK that specialise in looking after and rehabilitating people with spinal injuries. The hospital could put the donation towards more beds and add more comfort for those who have to lie down for a whole year, and also the equipment they need to rehabilitate patients.
Me and Gracey Power will be starting off in Brockley/Nunhead London and taking the sustrans route 6 all the way up to Sheffield, we are going to take outdoor sleeping bags and stuff for wild camping to stop off on the way and hopefully be offered a place to stay when we pass through the midlands where my family live :)
We will be leaving on Wed 12th July and hoping to make it there by the 15th.
See you in Sheffield... Let's rideeee!
