Every year, the residents of Nunnington hold a mini festival to raise money for the excellent charity Yorkshire Air Ambulance. This year we were reminded just how important their work is when one of our friend's life was saved following a freak accident.

In December I grew a beard, the first in my life, to raise funds for Bowel Cancer with the charity Decembeard. This year I plan to shave my beard if we reach the hard target of £5000.00 by Christmas Day. It can't be before as I have a few obligations involving a red suit and an odd bunch of Reindeer.

Following discussions, there is a raft of options:

£1000.00 raised and off with my moustache

£2000.00 raised and the left sideburn goes too

£3000.00 raised and the right sideburn falls to the floor

£4000.00 raised leaves me with a silly goatee

£5000.00+ and the lot comes off plus Kate will also shave her head! Offers from artists within our network are also coming forward to shave their heads! Thank you to Jimmy Brunt for getting the ball rolling with that one! As an added incentive I am committing to quitting cigarettes (the bain of my life for nigh on 30 years) if we hit the big £5000. Please give generously and share to your friends and colleagues!

It's such a worthy cause and whilst my effort is paltry in comparison to some fundraisers, I have invested a lot in this beard. Time, product and the occasional insult including being told it was 'Offensive'.
