We're all so busy doing our bit to find cures for horrible illnesses that I sometimes wonder how prepared we are when one or other of those diseases appears in our own lives. I guess it's not really something we want to think about, the experience of friends and family tells me it's certainly not something I'd wish on anyone.

But those diseases do turn up (more frequently than many of us would like to admit), and people live with them every day.
