10000 Steps
Nurses, doctors and support staff at Boundary House Medical Centre have signed up to Cancer Research '10,000 steps for September’.
The aim is to complete at least 10,000 steps every day in September to help raise funds for Cancer Research.
There are lots of charity events that we could have supported but we chose this one as it really struck a chord with all of us here at Boundary House. The reason is that the link between exercise and health improvement, including cancer prevention is becoming stronger and stronger.
Research suggests that having an active life can reduce your risk of cancer by up to 50 %, particularly in bowel, breast and womb cancers.
In addition being active can reduce your risk of stroke and heart disease by up to 35%, lower risk of type 2 diabetes by 30% and can significantly reduce your risk of suffering from dementia or depression.
People who have an active life are 30% less likely to have an early death.
Some of us are using smart phones to track our steps others pedometers or exercise trackers. Most of us have been shocked by our inactivity! It will require some planning and commitment to reach the 10,000 steps each day but we know it will be good for our health!
Please donate if you can and try to be more active as it will improve your health.
Wish us luck!!
