Chuf's mission is to make life better for children and young people who are born with or who develop heart conditions by providing lifelong support to them and their families. Chuf supports children who receive treatment at Freeman Hospital and many other hospitals throughout the North of England.

Story

When my son was just over a year old, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. This was a scary time for us, not knowing what it meant for him or for us.

It turned out he would need open heart surgery.

In September 2018, we got a call from the Freeman hospital telling us to come in straight away - his surgery was scheduled for the next morning. It was the hardest day and hardest week of our lives.

I'd never heard of CHUF before, but they were there every step of the way, visibly and invisibly.

Here's what I didn't know then:

"CHUF raises vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research. CHUF’s charitable activities however, go far beyond that of providing medical equipment and personnel. The Charity provides holistic care to the children by providing services and facilities that allow Heart Heroes to develop their skills and mature as any healthy child normally would." (from https://www.chuf.org.uk/what-we-do/)

We are so lucky. Bran's operation was a success. He no longer needs specialist care, and he's now going forward from strength to strength.

I wanted to honour the hard physical journey of my son and so I decided to run the GNR in September 2020 to support the work of CHUF.

Bran and I want to do our part to support the work of this fabulous charity to say thank you, and help ensure that other children and families continue to benefit from their work.

Please join us in supporting their marvellous work! Any amount is welcome. Bran and I are so grateful for your support.
