The Merlin Project is an MS therapy Centre and is a big mile stone for Cornwall, as it's the only centre for MS Sufferers.

It still isn't complete yet, they need to raise a further £200,000 to complete the building and facilities for the users and I promised the MS support group I use to attend when I thought I had MS, that I would do everything I could to help them get the money.

Now you're probably thinking 'thought she had MS? why would she think that?' Well let me tell you - are you sitting comfortably?

A few years ago I was suffering with bad migraines and could no longer wear contacts as the back of my eye was throbbing and sending sharp pains all over my brain and head when I moved my eyes etc, So I went to my opticians they sent me to the doctors, they sent me back to the opticians - this went on for a month or so!

Until my optician finally said i think you may have an inflammed optic nerve go back to your doctors now and tell him to check for it, which I did and he sent me straight to the hospital to an eye specialist, which made me panicky with his sense of urgency!! So I called my mum on the way to the hospital as she works as a Nurse there, so she met me in the eye unit and went in with me.

thinking back to what happened in that room with the Specialist is making me well up and shake as I write this, I had further eye tests done, I could now not even move my eyes left to right as the pain was so severe and sensitive to light, it felt like someone was constantly crushing my head into a small ball. Then after about 15 minutes the 'Specialist' which we later found out to be a trainee Specialist, (who should never have been allowed to see me as an emergency case and never be allowed to diagnose without further MRI scans and Lumbar puncture) turned around and said Yes Miss Brewer I am certain it is multiple sclerosis, I didn't know what this was but I knew it sounded bad and then I looked over to my mum who was crying and I said pardon and she repeated it but all I heard was it echoing in slow motion and then I blacked out and remembered coming around out side the door, I couldn't walk I was just crying histerically.

I asked my mum in car what  multiple sclerosis was and she said I'm not gonna tell you until we know its certain, I was still crying and saying oh god I'm gonna die aren't I, She just said I've got it, mum said promise me you won't worry yourself about this until we know for certain, Don't go looking it up on the internet or in my books, I didn't say anything.

Then that night I went in my mums study and looked it up in my mum's medical books and just sat there crying thinking once I realised what MS was, it's such a horrible disease takes over your nervous system and eats away at your body but you still have your mind but your body won't do what you want it too, there are different stages to MS and not everyone ends up wheel chair bound and incontinent - But at the time all I could see was black and thought my life was over.

this went on for a few months as the NHS said I would have to wait 9 months for an MRI scan and Lumbar puncture, so mean while I did research and tried to look on the positive side and went to a few MS support groups there, there were sufferers in different stages of the disease I found it all overwhelming and just cried through the meetings, they were all such lovely people and really helped me feel better about 'having' MS

Mum then had enough of waiting for my scan so we went Private and when i got my results back and got the all clear I can't tell you how relieved I was but I felt so guilty for not having it then and bad for the sufferers at the group so went back to tell them my good news and they were over joyed for me I broke down in tears and Promised them all then that I'm not promising a cure but I'm gonna raise as much money as I can to make their lives a little easier.

So please help me to keep my Promise to them by donating Now!!

I have done sponsored silences in the past and have just done a fund raising event for the merlin project at my local pub back in Cornwall Where I auctioned a signed poster of myself and did a raffle and I intend on doing a few more things before the Summer!!
