We raise awareness of Sjögren's Syndrome to fund research and support sufferers.

Story

Our mother sadly passed away almost 3 years ago and in her memory her children , her children inlaw and her grand children are all taking part in the Belfast Marathon. We have signed up for the Relay race and the Fun Run. We want to raise awareness of Sjogrens Disease , a disease that she suffered for a great part of her life. Sjogrens Disease pronounced ( show grins) is a long term chronic disorder of the immune system. White blood cells attack the salvia and tear glands which leads to always having dry mouth and eyes. Other problems include losing the sensation to hands and feet, it restricts blood to hands and feet leaving them feeling numb. Suffers of this syndrome also experience extreme tiredness, kidney problems and IBS.

To a healthy person suffering this disease life for them can be very irritable, however if a person has other health complaints the disease can be fatal.

Please help my family and I raise more awareness on the Disease. #teamRosaleen

About the charity

Sjögren’s Syndrome is debilitating, distressing, under recognised and under treated. Glands that produce tears and salvia or secretions of the vagina, skin and bowel stop working, it causes muscle or joint pain, low mood and extreme fatigue. The BSSA supports sufferers and raises awareness.
