So I've done the odd bit of running before; Cross Country at school and for the North Yorkshire county (once!) at the time... Then stopped for quite a number of years. I ventured back (treadmill running) in 2007 and had an on/off relationship with it since. Last year I did do the Paris Half Marathon and quickly vowed never to run as far again. So roll on ten months and here I am vowing to double that and do it in London too...
What is keeping me going is the efforts loads of people are doing for #WHS225 and the great three charities we are all supporting...
I know WHS folk are going to get loads of requests for sponsorship this year for all the array of events taking place, so here's my bid!
Cancer Research UK - Mum, Nan and Dad all lost out to Cancer back in 1989, 1989 and 2009. So Mum and Nan never saw what I chose to do in life (inside or outside work). Dad never quite saw a very special day in June 2009 either... It's 2017 but still we need to know more about this terrible killer...
Mind - I see the signs people struggle with mental health. Both from the perspective of people who brush it off as it's not visible to see on the outside or people who suffer from it but don't recognise the symptoms and don't know how to deal with it. Anything that raises awareness of mental health is has to be good to support...
National Literacy Trust - The power or reading and the informed knowledge it brings gives a strong foundation for all the countries' children to achieve all their ambitions. Too many children don't get this foundation and struggle therefore to achieve their full potential. Knowledge really is important and knowledge comes from input and input comes from text (be it books, social media or the internet). I don't have any children myself to influence, but this feels a great way to play a part in supporting others with this vital skill...
So, I'll try and get round by 4.5 hours (or put another way, inside 270 minutes - That's less than 14,400 seconds to complete the 26.2 miles or 42.2km - Yes, I still love numbers and usually have them all going round in my head whilst doing the runs - I just don't have my spreadsheets to hand!)
Any contribution to support me for the above reasons will really help me get round... Not just on the day in April, but all those training days leading up to the event itself... I've worked out how many training miles I'll be doing, but won't bore you any more with that number for now!
Thanks again for reading...
