On the 4th May 2015, many of our good friends and family will run alongside us in the Belfast City Relay Marathon. Our shared motivation is to raise funds for the ongoing research at Great Ormond Street Hospital into a rare condition that our son has called Congenital Melanocytic Nevus (CMN).
Our son is a happy, healthy 11month old but the research into CMN is important for him and to other children with CMN.
CMN are moles that resemble birth marks and can cover large areas of the body. Apart from the cosmetic issues, the condition carries an increased risk of malignant melanoma (up to 10% depending on the type of CMN), this risk peaks in early childhood. Unfortunately melanoma related to CMN is currently untreatable.
We would like to help speed up the research into treatments for CMN as well as help fund the other supports that the charity Caring Matters Now provides such as family support days and awareness raising.
The charity is small and despite it's recent award winning research to identify the "rogue" gene, the research does not receive any government funding. Funding therefore falls to those closest to it.
Please support us and the fantastic people listed below as they give up their bank holiday to run with us! Any donation no matter how small is gratefully accepted. Thank you for your support!
