The Channel · 9 September 2020

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

With a group of parents from school, I've joined a team of six middle aged enthusiasts, seeking to swim The Channel in September 2020 in a relay event, raising money for Aspire in the process. We have trained throughout lock down, using a carp lake near Staplehurst and Dover/Margate seafront for training. Water temperature hasn't always been that warm, but thankfully we completed our 2hr sea swim in 14C qualify temperature. Hoping the restrictions on swimming the Channel will be lifted soon, in time for our Sept crossing.
