Story

The time has come once again to do our little bit for Marie Curie.

What started ten years ago as Walk Ten, (& became Walk to Remember) is this year known as the Twilight Walk. Instead of the 10km we have usually done, this year Zoe & I are planning to walk 50km over the 10 days leading up to & including Bruce's Birthday on Monday 28th September - to mark what should have been his 50th Birthday.

We will be joined by different family members & friends on these walks but if you want to join in from wherever in the world you are, please do! We'd love to have you join us on our journey & would be delighted to add you to our list of walkers below!

We were so grateful to have the invaluable support of Marie Curie during Bruce's illness - eight days at their Edinburgh Hospice & then in our own home. I can't imagine what those last weeks & months would have been like if he hadn't been at home with us. Those special times that we had with our 'Usual Suspects' eating cupcakes brought by Doug & Ashlene, his favourite macarons baked by Farrah or apple turnovers brought by Susanne & Kaitlyn. There was the February BBQ - because why on earth not!? The hours we were able to spend by his side along with Mary, Leslie, Stuart, Sarah, Gary & the precious time he was able to spend with his amazing Zoe. I loved how his room was decorated with all the cards, letters, posters & gifts sent from all over the world & the special visits he had from family & friends - from Edinburgh & Glasgow, N. Ireland & England, to Switzerland, France, Bahrain, & Singapore to mention a few! We appreciated all the kindness & support shown to us all back then & also in the years that have followed. Thank you, we will never ever forget it!

We love & miss Bruce every day, but are so thankful to have had such an incredible person touch our lives. It is fantastic to see how his name lives on through all of us . . . & all of you . . . whether you knew him directly or not! Thank you to all those who have joined us at previous events & to those who have kindly sponsored us over the many years too - Marie Curie depends on these contributions & every little bit really does make a difference, so thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!

A few words from Marie Curie: Every day of your life matters from the first to the last. We believe that everyone living with a terminal illness should be able to get the most from the time they have left, however hard that may sometimes feel. We'll be here for you and your family when you may feel like no-one else is, to help you cope when you don't know how. Marie Curie Nurses care for you in your home, when you need them most, day or night. Our hospices are at the heart of communities around the UK and our trained volunteers and advisers are there for you with practical information and support when you don't know what to do next or just need to talk. We'll be by your side with care and support every step of the way, bringing light in the darkest hours.
