Story
Buddy was a well known and much loved member of the Penarth community for most of her life, both though her work for the RNLI, for which she was awarded the MBE in 2006, and as the owner of St Aubin Nursery from 1965 to 1990.
She was born in Victoria Road in July 1925 and after living abroad she returned to Penarth in the 1950s. She soon became involved with the Penarth Guild of the RNLI (her grandmother had been it’s first chairman) as the Hon. Sec - a job she did for over 30 years. One of her great delights was the opening of the lifeboat station on the Esplanade and being invited to name one of the lifeboats.
She continued to be involved with lifeboat and was delighted to accept the offer of the Presidency of the Penarth Branch. The highlight of her involvement with the RNLI was receiving the MBE from HRH Prince Charles.
Buddy was a dedicated volunteer raising money for the RNLI only stepping down from various committees aged 93. She tirelessly devoted much of her life in support of this amazing charity.
With the wonderful support of her daughter Debbie, Marie Curie Hospice at home carers and her family she passed away peacefully at home just as she always wanted.
Buddy’s final journey will be along the esplanade on Thursday September 15th around 2.30pm passing her beloved RNLI station and shop where the flag currently flies at half mast.
