Story
Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This July we are taking up the challenge of trekking across the
Pyrenees. We will be following in the footsteps of thousands of Jewish refugees and servicemen who fled to safety along one of the toughest WW2 escape routes from Nazi occupied France into Spain.
Known as the Coastal Freedom Trail, it will be a difficult trek spanning
72 kilometres (45 miles) over four days, through rocky and challenging terrain with steep climbs up to altitudes of over 700m. The path is steeped in history and we will be passing plaques and memorials dedicated to the bravery of those who risked their lives to help others flee to safety during this harrowing time.
Having been close friends since taking our first steps together at age
two and still walking regularly today with our dogs, we felt that this would be an ideal challenge for us to take on together. We were particularly inspired to do it to raise funds for the incredible charity, Camp Simcha, which exists to improve the quality of life for Jewish children suffering from all forms of serious and life threatening childhood illness and provides 24/7 practical and
emotional support for the families.
We have committed ourselves to this challenge and will spend the next few months training and raising the necessary funds, so please help us,
we need to reach our target so that the children and families supported
by this amazing charity Camp Simcha can benefit.
Your support and encouragement is very much appreciated by both of
us.
Thank you.
Love Sarah and Carol xx
