In the month of November, we are asking you to take part in
our Staff Pledge to Help End Child Food Poverty in the UK.
We all know how hard this year has been for everyone. We
also know that those in unstable jobs and on low wages have been
disproportionately impacted and this has led to more kids going to bed hungry across the UK. Some of these families will live in our communities and our estates. Back at the start of the pandemic, CDS donated over £9000 to the three foodbanks local to our biggest concentrations of tenants (Dartford, Milton Keynes and Colchester). 8 months into the pandemic, and as Christmas approaches, we feel it is time to do more to support the families we work with and their communities.
At CDS, we are incredibly fortunate. Throughout the pandemic
we have had stable employment that we have largely been able to carry out from the safety of our homes. Our jobs are secure, and we do not have to worry about the personal financial catastrophe that can accompany job losses. This is something that we should not take for granted. We want to use this fact as inspiration to help those less fortunate than us and this is why we are asking all of you to take action to help those in need.
Last year, food banks in our network provided more than 1.6 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis. More than half a million of these went to children. It’s not right that people can’t afford the basics. With your help, we can help end the need for food banks. As a nation, we expect no one should be left hungry or destitute. Illness, disability, family breakdown or the loss of a job can happen to any of us. With your help #ThisCanChange
