Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’m running my first marathon in London (April 2019).

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

We lost our youngest daughter, Jess, when she was 6. Jess fought leukaemia for 4 years but they ran out of ways to treat her and on 6th Jan 2017 she sadly passed away at the Children’s Hospital in Bristol.

As a family it was the worst time of our lives. That was when the Children’s Hospice South West stepped up. They took us into their home at Charlton Farm and looked after us. CHSW helped us through all the steps of arranging Jess’ funeral, registering her death, trying to understand what was going to happen in the next days, weeks and beyond. They are still helping us now with bereavement days.

I just don’t know what we would have done without them. But for families of children with life limiting illnesses they offer respite care. They allow parents and siblings to be themselves for a short while without being responsible for the meds and treatment plans for a brief time. They somehow create a relaxed environment where homemade food is readily available, with amazing cakes and a lot of love and care is on tap.

I run as it has become a part of my therapy. I have never run a marathon but now is the right time as I want to give something back and help those still fighting for their loved ones, still giving quality time whenever they can. Running for precious lives X.
