Story
Some of you know I've spent the last 2 years in some serious pain with a neck injury, not able to move around that much, or do much, piling on weight and feeling miserable. Even though I'm not yet fully healed and am still in daily pain, the moment I was able to start getting mobile again I joined a gym and started swimming. Doggy paddle was my strongest stroke and I started a few weeks back not being able to do more than one length of the pool without stopping. When you're injured, asthmatic, a crap swimmer, and 4 stone overweight then getting started is a challenge. Hell! Getting in a bathing suit is a challenge! But I've done it, and I'm already making great progress, training at least 3 times a week and have lost 3/4 a stone already. I've lost family members to cancer and I've also got friends and family who are cancer survivors. I work with so many people who are either battling cancer or are sadly losing the battle. I know medical developments are happening all the time, and in the past I've raised money for Cancer Research. But I'm a big believer in making people feel good and how much that helps them fight diseases and help heal themselves. Macmillan have been hugely supportive to people I know going through some of the scariest shit of their lives - kindnesses and support that have a made a real difference when it really counted. So I wanted to do something to raise a little money for them. Please give whatever you can. I'm more of a blubberfish than a mermaid, but I'll do my best for everyone and need the encouragement to keep going, even for the sake of my own health. I'm aiming for a very modest 2.5km, which I know sounds like bugger all to my marathon-running, channel-swimming, triathlon-conquering buddies but to me that represents a huuuuuuuge challenge. If I can do more in the given time, then I will, but right now I've set myself a challenge which I believe I can achieve if I continue to work hard and see my osteopath regularly. Please give what you can - even a pound.
