Story
Four members of the Fundraising team at CLAN decided to sign themselves up for a challenge - to learn to row in five weeks and take part in the 2016 Aberdeen Inter-Company Row Regatta Day...on the River Dee, for all to see!
This was something that had been spoken about in the office over the last few years but never quite happened. 2016 turned out to be the year though - with the right combination of four willing participants / Eddie the Eagle style dreamers, 2016 was destined to be the year the CLAN flag was metaphorically flown (or dragged behind a boat making its way along the Dee, in a slow and uncoordinated fashion)...
We started training mid-May and are still holding a mini glimmer of hope that we'll soon be called up for Team GB for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
We are finding this a lot harder than we imagined and thought that a JustGiving page, raising some funds for our charity, would give us the boost we need during training to row back to shore when we're half-tempted to deliberately capsize the boat instead...and will also help when we're questioning why signed ourselves up for this and even paid to do it!
Please come along and support us on the day (Saturday 18th June) - it would be great to see as many Team CLANanarama Supporters there as possible and we've been told it's a great party day for everyone (probably more so for you lot on shore). Apparently there is a prize for Best Supported Crew on the day so maybe that'll be our best shot at bringing a prize back to the office! If you're planning on coming along - drop us an email (zoe.barbour@clanhouse.org) for more info.
We'll post more information about the times we'll be rowing on the day, nearer the time - we should find out ourselves round about the 13th. To be fair, you won't miss us on the day because...there is also a prize for Best Dressed Crew (as the regatta is fancy dress) so naturally we will be rowing as a team of four bananas with our cox Alex, who has kindly agreed to dress as a gorilla!
Thank you to everyone for their support and encouragement thus far!
