Chris is running 26 miles for MRF

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
Hello and thanks for visiting!
UPDATE:
Well this hasn’t gone to plan so far. After getting an injury in 2019 I had to defer to the 2020 London marathon and then we all know what happened...so thanks to Corona I will now be running in April 2023!
So why is a man like you doing a race like this I hear you ask?
In 2015 after what was a fairly routine operation to cure his neuralgia my dad developed a meningitis, unfortunately the bacteria that caused the infection was multi drug resistant and incredibly aggressive.
Dad fought the infection like an absolute warrior but the infection severely damaged his brain and left him in a coma. Eventually he opened his eyes again, but what was once an always intelligent, sometimes funny and occasionally infuriating man was gone. Physically he was there but his brilliant mind was no more.
After five months of little progress his brain gave way and in February 2016 he died from a brain haemorrhage.
To watch someone you love so much go through something like this is utterly heartbreaking.
Those of you who know me know that I am NOT a sporty guy so you know how much of a challenge this will be for me, but it's nothing compared to the challenges faced by those who've survived meningitis, be it loss of limbs or life altering, permanent brain damage.
So please donate, to help prevent meningitis, to help those affected by it and to make the calf cramps worth it!
Thanks a lot,
Chris
