Story
My father was such a big, strong , fit man all his life. He was my hero. Until 5 years ago he started to experience symptoms such as pain in back & legs, tremors in his left side (legs and arms). Many tests were carried out to understand my fathers tremors , spinal fluids, CT & MRI scans. It wasn't till 2 years after that he was diagnosed with a form of MND, Primary Lateral Sceloris . Doctors explained how clumps in my fathers brain where dying & that muscle deterioration & waste will take place, including respiratory failure . MND causes all aspects for dads being to cease functioning unaided, until they become so weak organs stop working at all.
Watching my fathers deterioration on a daily basis is heartbreaking and so difficult to process without wanting to cry all the time. Firstly my fathers immobility came from the inability to walk unaided to selling his car because of this horrendous disease. Currently my father is on oxygen & nebuliser everyday, due to his oxygen levels being so low he can not survive without support in breathing. Continuous chest infections cause Dad so many problems, and doctors struggle to clear them regardless of any amount of antibiotics due to the breathing muscles weakening.
Dad is now extremely weaker, barely able to function his upper body which is affecting his coping mechanisims significantly . His speech is becoming slurred and is finding great difficulty in communicating with his family & carers. This is such a difficult time for us all, but in all this my father wants to try and do his bit for MND Scotland. He wants to share his story to raise awareness, shave his head and has grown his beard especially for fund raising for MND . My father can't do marathon runs or even leave his home now so for him to try reach out to the public in this way, to try to raise funds is just beautiful in my eyes.
Please take the time to read his story, & lets raise some awareness, and much needed funds for this amazing charity & this cruel disease so we can increase research and enable us to understand the disease better .
My fathers story is just one, please help my father raise some money and do some good for this disease that is cutting his life way too soon, so he can see some good in all this pain he is enduring, which is breaking his wife's, children's & grandchildren's hearts on a daily basis.
