Friends of ANCHOR have committed to raise £30,000 to aid research into AML, a cancer type that is known for poor prognosis and survival rates. AML stands for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia; the disease that Cammy Smith bravely fought. We, and all those involved in fundraising for #weareallcammysmith, have pledged our support to Friends of ANCHOR to help raise the funds needed to make this research possible.
The main aim of the research project is to perform genetic sequencing on samples given from AML patients with a specific chromosomal pattern. There are particular data samples in the North-east of Scotland that carry a real potential to shed light on why there can be an unusual resistance to chemotherapy and this research project will explore this and hopefully provide valuable insight to help improve our understanding of AML.
Not only will this study look to reveal why this form of cancer develops but it also hopes to identify new forms of treatment. New treatments that can give AML patients a better chance of survival. A new hope for families facing the devastating consequences of the disease. And, a new opportunity to bring us one step closer to a cure for AML.

We are raising money for Friends of Anchor because they provided care for our friend Cammy and support for his family when he was ill. He fought such a courageous fight against Leukaemia. His passion & love for life, his family and friends showed no bounds! He was and still is a true inspiration, after all he has inspired us all to join together to take part in these two events. Whether you are taking part in the Baker Hughes 10K on the 18th of May and/or the Tough Mudder on the 14th June and would like to run in Cammy's name, then let us know once you've registered and we'll add your name to the participants list and you can help raise money for Friends of Anchor!! Every penny that they receive goes towards cancer care in the Anchor Unit. All of their admin fees & costs are covered by the Balmoral Group so every penny really does make a difference to those who suffer from cancer...and when we smash our target, it's simple, we'll just keep raising it!!! This will be difficult but on the day and when we think about what Cammy faced, this would be nothing more than a walk in the park to him!!! Lets give him a laugh and try our best!
We now have a team running the Tough Mudder course on July the 13th in Kettering, Northhampton. Contact us if you would like to take part.
We are always looking for people to get involved no matter where you are or what you would like to do. Message either of us on facebook and tell us if you would like to be involved. We are always looking for new events etc
