Dear Friends,

I hope you can find the time to read my story and sponsor me for my Skydive on 26 October 2013.

Those who are close to me will know that I lost one of the most important family members in my life, my dearest Granny Liz losing her battle to ovarian cancer 24 May 2013. Her last days were spent in the Northern Ireland Hospice, Belfast. Whilst I visited almost every weekend, I’d sit there next to her with my huge back sunglasses on thinking I could hide my tears - I initially hated that she was in a ‘Hospice’. I remember the lady who shared a room with my Granny, Anne, would notice my emotions and say to me, “She’ll be ok love”. I hated leaving her, and although I wished she was at home around all of her family, I knew that it was the best place for her to be.

The doctors/nurses were so supportive and caring and I could not believe the amount of volunteers there! They all knew that my Granny was the fussiest at the best of times with her food and drinks but catered for her in any way they could. They even put up with her returning ice cold water, because it wasn’t cold enough with a smile on their face still!!

They had activities all day that the patients could join in with – Bingo, art classes, music lessons etc all run by volunteers. I know that the Art classes would have been something that Granny would have loved to have participated in, but she was just too poorly.

I think that volunteering there would be something I would love to do, but I know that I’m not strong enough mentally to help the patients first hand yet.

So...!!!

My crazy friend at work persuaded me to join her on 26 October 2013 doing a Skydive and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to raise some money. I’d like to thank the hospice/people who helped and cared for my Granny, making her last days as comfortable as possible. I saw how hard they worked and think they deserve every pound raised to help them look after other patients too. My fear for this Skydive is nothing compared to what my Granny went/others go through when battling with cancer or other terminal illnesses. I really wanted to give something back and the hospice seemed like the perfect place to support.

Every little bit helps – Every penny you pledge will make a difference and will go directly to the hospice and the patients

Thank you :)
