Story

Hello!

My name is Carl Denning, and nearly 5 years ago I was told I had a 3% chance of survival due to having pancreatic cancer.

The last 5 years have been a rocky road. I have managed to be cancer free 5 times now, but sadly, recently the chemotherapy as stopped working.

Being in my early 40s I did not want to go into a hospice. I saw them as where someone goes to die, almost like an old peoples home.

Last week I was rushed into hospital, my legs and waist have swelled and I am now unable to walk, I was in a lot of pain. I did not want to go into an hospice but after talking to my partner we decided we needed more help and an hospice was the only real option.

That was a week ago, and how my views have changed. The doctors and nurses have given so much time for me. Two weeks ago, I questioned if that was going to be my last night. Now, after the team in the hospice have managed my pain, we are all planing a day trip out.

This is not anything like I imaged, it is not an old peoples home, but a place where the staff can't do enough for you.

My biggest realisation was this is not a place to die. This is a place to live, and the most shocking part of all of this for me, it is run on 60% of donations.

For everyone who has ever donated towards Wheatfields, thank you, thank you so much.

I know I may come across as cheeky, as I always seem to be asking for money from the people that read my blog. The thing is, here, you can see every single pound donated. I hope you don't mind me asking, but if you have read my blog and enjoyed it, even 50p would make a difference.

In exchange, I said it may be my last blog entry last time, well, I take it back, and thats with help from Wheatfields I will keep on writing and I hope you keep on enjoying.

A very hearty thanks you.
