Christmas Day Dip · 25 December 2009

St Elizabeth Hospice improves life for people with a progressive illness. Our work centres around individual needs, with specialist support, wherever required, at home, in the community or at the hospice. Each year the hospice needs to generate £12.9m, of this 70% comes from the local community.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

OK, I may have completely lost it but on Christmas day, myself, my husband, my sister and my brother in law are taking a dip into the North Sea at Felixstowe to raise a few £££ for the St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich.  It will be very cold!!

Why are we doing it?

Well, as you may (or may not know), I'm from Felixstowe and over the past few years there have been a number of friends and friends of friends who have unfortunately lost parents to cancer, these folk have benefited from the services provided by St Elizabeth Hospice during these difficult periods so we wanted to do something to help maintain this important charity and help it continue supporting others.  As Christmas is a time of celebration, a time for family and also a time that these days is associated with excess and self-indulgence we thought it an apt time to remind ourselves how grateful we should be for what we have - a dip in the sea on Christmas morning will certainly be a shock to the system and ensure we are grateful for the winter warmers and family support that we will have once we're out of the water!

So what is the St Elizabeth hospice?

The services include an in-patient unit, day care services, Hospice at Home and family support team.

St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent local charity and all of the services are provided free of charge. In total it costs £5.9 million each year to run the Hospice, of which 77% is raised by our supporters.

It is the support of the local community that enables St Elizabeth Hospice to continue providing the highest standard of care to our patients and their families, friends and carers. There are many ways in which you can help, from taking part in one of our fundraising events to joining our lottery, from visiting one of our shops to volunteering.
