Story
For St John's Hospice - Moggerhanger
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you be will aware, not so long ago, my father-in-law Mike Jackson was using this same website to raise money for two worthy cancer charities (each and The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation) and with everyone’s amazing generosity raised over £4000! On the 26th of June 2009 Mike lost his battle with cancer and through this experience myself and the rest of the family discovered yet another truly worthy and inspirational cause: Sue Ryder My father-in-law Mike Jackson was a fighter. Positive and determined throughout his illness, he battled on, making the most of everything he had. Throughout his illness he was an inspiration to many people who admired his positivity and courage. His final days were spent at the Sue Ryder Hospice: St John’s in Moggerhanger, and what a truly amazing place this is for both patients and family members alike. The hospice staff welcomed us in (and at times there were a lot of us!), and after just hours it felt like they had known us all for years. Mike was cared for with the upmost respect and dignity that he deserved, making him comfortable and peaceful at a time when he most needed it. Words cannot fully express the fantastic support that this charity gives to patients and families in need of help at such a difficult time. I will always completely and utterly respect the challenging work that they do and for this I am truly thankful. As a result of my experiences I decided that I must enter the Biddenham 10K River Run in order to raise money for this amazing hospice as a little way of saying ‘thank you’. Each year the hospice needs to raise £1 million to cover the day to day unfunded running costs and also rely the generosity of a number of volunteers. With your money the hospice will be able to provide comfort and care for many more patients in the years to come. It may not be a marathon but to me it will be a challenge! O.K, I am someone who keeps relatively fit, but running isn’t exactly my forte – so here lays the challenge and the reason I am asking you very kindly to donate some of your hard earned cash. The training has started – slowly but surely, with my aim at the moment to simply get round without walking any of it! Maybe in a few weeks I’ll have a time to aim for but let’s take one thing at a time J I hope you will be able to support me with a small donation and I will keep you updated with my progress. Thanks Caroline x.x.x.x.x
