Story

Welcome to our Trek Yourself! fundraising page for CoppaFeel! Eddie and Cassie will be trekking 100km in June 2022 to raise money for CoppaFeel!

From Cassie:

My journey with breast lumps has been going on since 2016. I was originally diagnosed with a Benign Fibroadenoma which didn't need treatment until it doubled in size and became very painful in 2021. It was removed in October 2021.

Just five months after having a lumpectomy, I found a second lump in the same breast which was biopsied and came back from pathology as a B3 lesion, meaning 'indeterminate malignant potential'. The consultant explained to me that it was possible the lump was a Phyllodes Tumour, a relatively rare tumour that grows rapidly and can be or can become cancerous.

Exactly six months and one week after surgery, I had a second lumpectomy to remove the troublesome lump. That was this week and next week I will hear back about the results. it's been a difficult time. The run up to both surgeries was challenging for me and my recovery has not been the speediest. But I'm so glad that I got my breasts checked out and have had these lumps removed.

I have found CoppaFeel so helpful during these challenges. The same year I first found my Fibroadenoma I watched Kris' documentary Dying to Live and immediately signed up to receive Coppafeels monthly texts to remind me to check and I still get them now. Most breast cancer and breast awareness information out there is aimed at older women, so it was refreshing to read the CoppaFeel's resources which felt so relateable to me. I also work for the publisher that published Kris Hallenga's, CoppaFeel's founder, memoir. I read her book just weeks before my first surgery and seeing her passion for life leap off the page was the perfect antidote to the seemingly never ending hospital appointments and the grim weeks of recovery.

I've been receiving CoppaFeel's texts for about 6 years. That's 72 texts that have kept checking my boobs on the brain. Without CoppaFeel I know that I wouldn't have been as vigilant and might not have noticed my lumps until it was too late.

Eddie and I have decided to join the Trek Yourself challenge to support CoppaFeel!'s mission and raise money for this amazing charity. On a personal note, I want to challenge my body after surgery. My body has changed twice in the last six months. I have two new scars to get used to and I want to see the positives of what my body can do.

Please share and donate if you can. Your donations will not only support our fundraising target, but most importantly CoppaFeel!, who are on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure that young people are regularly checking their boobs, pecs and chests and getting to know their bodies in order to have the confidence to see their GP if something just doesn't feel normal.

Thanks so much for your donation & support. To find out more about CoppaFeel! head to www.coppafeel.org.
