Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for ANTHONY NOLAN!

I am running the Larking Gowen Half Marathon for Anthony Nolan.

Antony Nolan is a very special charity for me to raise money for. They found a match for Bea, giving her a donor and the bone marrow transplant that ultimately turned her life around.

Bea has been, and still is, an absolute STAR. She was admitted into hospital when she was 6 months old and quickly became extremely poorley. Bea was later diagnosed as having a very rare type of auto-immune disease, meaning that her high levels of white blood cells were effectively attacking and shutting her body down.

Bea had chemotheraphy befor the transplant to destroy the over active immune system which left a clean slate for the new white blood cells after the bone marrow transplant.

After about 4 years of fighting, the transplant had a great effect and meant that after a period of recovery, Bea was able to return home after spending the best part of her life in hospital! She gained so much strength that not too long after, the hospital started to reduce the amount of steriods that she needed to take every day.

Bea went from strength to strength in an incredible amount of time, and was able to start school with the rest of her age group at 4 and a half years old! This was a massive mile stone after all of the years spent in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and a large part of this was down to that crucial transplant. Many other factors helped Bea to get to where she is now including the staff at GOSH, Hystiocytosis and many more.

PLEASE donate if you can for this very worthy cause and you could help a family like ours!

£100. That’s how much it costs to recruit and look after a potential donor on our register. Right now, we can find a matching donor for just half of those who come to us in desperate need. The more money we have, the more donors we can find – and the more lives we can save. - See more at: http://www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways-you-could-save-life/raise-money#sthash.2Kb84x1D.dpuf
