We fund medical research to help find a cure for Lupus

Story

As part of my 30 before 30 challenge I wanted to take on something that would really push me, and fundraise for a charity that meant something to me.

The challenge is a big one! Two days walking round the Isle of Wight. 52km on day one and 54km on day two. I have a LOT of training ahead of me but I hope to be able to not only get myself round, but do so comfortably and more importantly enjoy it!

In early 2016 I was diagnosed with Discoid Lupus, affecting my scalp and possibly my hands. Doctors are also still unable to confirm if I am also suffering from Systemic Lupus due to other symptoms and test results which are ongoing.

On diagnosis I received a lot of support and information to help me take on this condition positively from Lupus UK. The condition is so poorly understood in the general public, many not even having heard of it. As a result, if I can spread some knowledge as well as raise some money then I've met my goal.

Lupus is an illness which can affect any part of the body. 90% of cases are female, and it is often overlooked by GPs and Consultants which will delay diagnosis. There is currently no cure and symptoms vary hugely from patient to patient which can include extreme fatigue, joint pain, kidney problems, heart and lung involvement, oral ulcers, light sensitivity, depression, hair loss, rashes and increased risk of miscarriage.

If each one of my generous sponsors could tell just one person about Lupus then I and the charity would be immensely grateful!
