We did it and enjoyed it! Claire came in at a phenomenal 1:59 and Catherine at a brilliant 2:07! We are justly proud to be part of the team raising money for such a great cause. We (Catherine and Claire) are running the 2011 Cardiff Half Marathon as part of a small Monmouth-based team in support of the Children's Ward at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. 

 

About Us: Catherine and Clarie are regular running partners and friends. Claire has been a 'runner' for many years and Catherine, a 'lapsed runner', decided to get fit last year as the big 40 loomed. We decided in a mad moment that we needed a challenge and have made the Cardiff Half Marathon our goal  - this is our FIRST half marathon! We have decided to raise money for a good cause to make all the hard slog worthwhile and spur us on.

 

The team are hoping to raise enough money to enable Nevill Hall Hospital Children's Ward buy a CPAP machine, which is half way between an oyygen supply and full ventilation and will be of huge benefit to unwell babies and children. Presently the Ward to not have a machine and children need to be transferred to the Heath Hospital in Cardiff, which is extremely stressful, albeit necessary. The team hope to raise £10,000 in total for the machine.  

 

At the heart of this fundraising campaign is a Monmouth Mum, Sophie Graefe, who last year had twin baby boys, Samuel and Thomas, who were both unwell in the early months of life. At one stage, due to the lack of a CPAP machine, Thomas had to be transferred to the Heath in Cardiff whilst Samuel remained at Nevill Hall. One can only imagine the enormous strain this placed on the family. We are pleased to report that both boys are now thriving!
