Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you know, my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2011. The whole family was absolutely devastated and petrified about what was to come. To make it worse, mum had only just received the 'all clear' in summer 2010 after suffering breast cancer 10 years ago. We were also told that the lung cancer was the 'smokers' type and mum had never even puffed a cigarette in her whole life. None of us could believe quite how cruel life could be to someone who is so wonderful to everyone around her.
Mum, being the strong person she is, was determined to fight this awful disease once again! And once again The Christie was there to help her fight it. Throughout August and September 2011, Mum went through 7 weeks of intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It was extremely draining, distressing and painful for her. She lost most of her hair and a lot of weight due to being unable to eat anything as her throat and gullett was so raw following the harsh treatment. Throughout this very difficult time, mum has felt fully supported and cared for by all the Consultants, nurses and support staff fromThe Christie. They were always kind, caring and patient towards her whilst remaining honest about each step she had to face next.
I am pleased to say that mum is feeling much better. Her hair has grown back and she is able to eat normally. On 20th January, we were told by her Consultant that hopefully the treatment has been successful. She will continue to be monitored regularly at The Christie.
After such an awful year in 2011, I felt that we all needed a positive focus and what better way than to fundraise for The Christie!
Those of you who know me, know that I never do things by halves! So.... I decided to do a 10 day challenging trek through the rainforests of Costa Rica! I go on 22nd November! I have already started my training and am looking forward to orgainsing some fun events to raise more money for what is a fabulous cause! Although I must admit that the biggest challenge for me is going to be the camping and the bugs.....eeek! Again those of you who know, know that I like a bit of luxury and am scared of all creepy crawlies and bugs. I wont go in my bedroom if there is a moth or ladybird.....! I am currently on the look out for a sleeping bag which I can zip my whole body and head into :)! So if anyone see's one, let me know!
I woud be most grateful for any donation you can make. The Christie is a wonderful place dealing with the most horrendous things. Every little bit raised will make a difference.
