Story
I had been unwell for sometime, frequent trips to the doctor failed to reveal anything. In May 2020, during the first Covid lockdown I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. They call it the "silent killer" as it often remains undiagnosed, only showing signs of the disease when its in the later stages. I started chemo in June 2020 and had my surgery in September 2020 at Hammersmith Hospital London. My surgery was performed by Prof. Christina Fotopoulou, who heads the research for The Ovarian Care Fund.
The Ovarian Care Fund is raising money to conduct research into advanced ovarian cancer in women. The research is being led by Professor Christina Fotopoulou, one of the country’s leading experts in ovarian cancer, and her team at Imperial College in west London.
We will support ground-breaking new research into this life-threatening condition by funding highly-skilled laboratory staff and essential equipment.
With your help, we can make significant steps in the fight against this deadly disease.
Where will the money go?
The money we raise will be spent in three key areas:
Skilled staff: We will fund an additional Research Assistant post to help Professor Fotopoulou and her team carry out vital lab work.
Research equipment: We will fund essential equipment required for the research programme, including tools used to understand the way the disease spreads and test its response to drug treatments.
Laboratory materials: We will fund the purchase of vital materials used in the lab to detect different proteins in cancer tissues and grow cancer cells to investigate their properties and response to drugs.
