We would be very grateful if you would support a great cause - one very close to my heart. Earlier this year my daughter Cora was born with a very rare and life threatening heart condition. Cora was born a good weight and appeared healthy - We were not aware of any problems until day 7 of her life and after a whirlwind 48 hours she had had open heart surgery at Glenfield Hospital Leicester. This is where I first came into contact with Heartlink – the charity is affiliated to the Children’s heart unit and over 30 years has donated millions of pounds worth of life saving equipment to the unit but also has paid for the parents accommodation to enable parents like myself to stay at the hospital with your child – they even give each parent toiletries which sounds insignificant but means a lot when your life has suddenly turned upside down and you have spent 48 hours in a hospital ward. They have also paid for a superb play area for recovering children and their siblings. It was started by a father who was in my position 30 years ago and has since raised over £4,000,000 and I actually met him measuring up for the new parents kitchen while I was there – 30 years on a still dedicated to the cause – this is a charity where every penny finds its way to the front line. Heartlink is now engaged in a campaign to save the unit itself – I intend to support them and I sincerely hope they succeed in reversing a diabolical decision by NHS England.
