Story
In April 2018, my wife lost her life in a mountaineering
accident. This left me feeling totally alone and isolated. While I know that
neither of these feelings were actually true, I did feel them and I still do to
some extent.
The charity WAY – Widowed And Young provides a peer support
network allowing widows to come together in a safe environment. I hope that my
friends and family never truly understand what I have been going through for
the last two years. Having access to other people who truly ‘get it’ has made a
huge difference to me and I know that I am not alone in this. I am pleased to
say that many of these people have become my friends.
With the covid lockdown in place, this feeling of isolation
becomes ever more difficult to cope with and the support provided by WAY ever
more important (especially for those who have been newly widowed). Please help
me to give back to this charity that has done so much for me. It will make a
massive difference to thousands of people, allowing them to join the club that
nobody wants to belong to.
Within three months (July, August and September) I will be
challenging myself to walk/run a distance of 1000km, this is approximately 11km/7.8
miles per day. Easy in isolation but very challenging to keep up for an
extended period especially as I am currently recovering from breaking a toe!
Thank you
