Story
I have always been passionate in learning about other people, their cultures and the world. I find the idea of people being unique and different from each other fascinating; this is why I have decided to do volunteering/charity work before going on to further education/full time work. I am going on a trip to Nandi County in Kenya with the charity VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) between October 5th 2017 and December 17th 2017. The money raised on this page does not go directly towards the costs of my trip but rather to VSO so that they can continue to offer this opportunity to other young people.
This trip involves undertaking various roles which all contribute towards one ultimate goal: providing equal opportunities to education for disabled children in the region. Kenyans with disabilities are under represented in schools and face an unwanted stigma, something which myself and the charity aim to eradicate. This involves improving the learning of children with disabilities in Kenya, including increasing literacy rate and numeracy skills. One key way in which VSO has impacted the lives of deaf Kenyans has been to help support the learning of sign language in the families of deaf children, aiding communication between children and their parents. Ultimately, the project I am working on aims to aid the support, integration and inclusion of people with disabilities in Kenya in both education and socioeconomic development.
I hope this covers any questions, feel free to message me on Facebook or email me: Charleyelizabethpick@gmail.com
I will be more than grateful for any donations no matter what size, every little helps.
Thanks in advance,
Charley :)
