Charlie's Meningitis Climb

Student Challenges Kilimanjaro 2020 · 20 August 2020 to 5 September 2020 ·
Hi, I’m Charlie, most of you who know me will be aware that in May 2018, my brother, Benjamin, was diagnosed with Meningitis, causing him for a time to sit on the brink of death, unable to control his speech or movements.
He almost joined the 290,000 that die each year from Meningitis and did join the 1 in 5 who suffer impairments caused by the disease, being saddled with a brain injury after battling the sixth largest infectious disease killer.
Fortunately, after over a year of intense neuro-rehabilitation and physiotherapy Benjamin is back on his feet, walking and talking, but few can say the same.
The Meningitis Research Foundation aims to beat Meningitis by 2030 by creating vaccines for the currently un-preventable strains, reducing cases from vaccine-preventable forms and maximising the quality of life for people affected by Meningitis.
With such a huge goal set the Meningitis Research Foundation needs every penny it can get.
So, how am I going to help?
Well, in order to raise money for this outstanding charity, I’m going to be climbing the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro.
To reach this personal goal, I must first reach my financial goal, by raising £3050 for the Meningitis Research Foundation by July 2020. If you’d like to support me, as well as this phenomenal organisation, I’d urge you to donate and help eliminate Meningitis by 2030.
