Story

In 2019 as some may know I was going through a difficult time with my health and completely unaware what was wrong. I was working and running a Pilates Studio in Barbados without my family around, going through tests with no answers to what was wrong. I decided it was best to return back to London to be with my family and get things checked out more here.

In 2020 after many A&E visits, scans, EEGs and tests, I was diagnosed with some neurological issues inc epilepsy. It was a really tough time both mentally and physicality. I was constantly drained, anxious when it would I'd seizure again, and unsure how my life would now be impacted because of it. I was constantly trying to fight the fact I had this condition, whilst running a business and trying to convince myself and others around me I was fine even on those really tough days!

The first medication I was on made me so tired I would sleep between clients, I was unable to stay awake and just felt depressed, this is what my life would be like now - which definitely wasn't a life I wanted!

1 year on, I'm now on the right medication for me that works amazingly for me, with a combination on taking time to exercise both my brain and body (reading, brain training, sudoko, pilates, gym, running and boxing) and rest, I feel like the old me is back!

Being able to talk about it with friends and family and educating them on my triggers has made me also feel safer and more comfortable. Being able to be honest and open when I'm not feeling great or need a rest not stress; also if I was to have a seizure they'd know how to act and they would feel comfortable knowing what to do or who to call if was with them.

I've learnt how to recognise some of signs to what triggers seizures for me. How to live a normal life and find that balance, which has been so important as I'm not the type of person to sit still for 5 mins! Ive been able to adapt my business (Wellbeing Pilates) to a way that works around my health and still provide my clients with 100% service - I'd also like to thank every single one of my clients for understanding and their continued support, you all really kept me going!

Thankyou for taking the time to read what this charity means to me, and thank you so much to all my closest, nearest and dearest around me; who have been there for me through out it all!

Now its time to get some miles under these legs, and I'll see you all at the end  big G&T at that finish line!!

I would like to help raise funds and awareness of the fantastic work done by the Epilepsy Society. Their mission statement is 'to enhance the quality of life of people affected by epilepsy by promoting research, education and public awareness and by delivering specialist medical care and support services'. It would be wonderful if you are able to make any sort of donation to support the valued work and support they provide.
