Story
On Thursday 21st July 2022,
Charlie in Year 3 will be cutting her hair to raise funds for The Sick Children’s Trust. Charlie has been growing her hair all year in preparation for the event and is kindly asking everyone for their support.
Charlie was born with a defect called ‘Gastroschisis’, which happens when a baby’s tummy doesn’t fully develop causing the small and large intestines to freely float outside the baby’s body rather than on the inside. Gastroschisis affects only 5 in every 10,000 babies. This meant that at only 4 hours old Charlie was rushed into surgery to allow surgeons to try to place her intestines back inside her body. However, further complications did mean that this didn’t go to plan and more surgery was needed. Thankfully, The Sick Children’s Trust were there to support Charlie’s Mum and Dad throughout this traumatic time, by allowing them to stay in Eckersley House, which is a ‘home from home’ based in the grounds of Leeds General Infirmary. This allowed Charlie’s family to be by her side throughout a long 9 weeks in hospital, 7 of these were in ICU with a total of 3 rounds of surgery.
Charlie would now like to raise money to give back and support Eckersley House to allow other families to receive the wonderful help and support that her family received throughout this difficult time. Therefore, she would be grateful of the support of Abbey Park families in achieving her mission.
