Story
I’m taking on 100 miles rowing in March for Mind.
I am doing this in memory of a dear friend and fellow volunteer Scott Holland, who we sadly lost in December 2024.
A little about Scott's character. He was very much known for silly little antics and ability to wind people up. However, nobody could react in any way but laugh. He always put a smile on people's faces and was a great mentor and friend to all. He is greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
As a sea cadet, Scott was my new entry instructor. In order to get me to get into a kayak on open waters, Scott told me that I was in a boat that could not possibly capsize. 20 years later when I rejoined as a fellow volunteer, turns out that Scott had been telling porkies all this time and he then informed me that there is no such thing as a kayak that cannot tip over. He found it hilarious that I believed him this whole time. This was just one of many memories I treasure with Scott.
So for this I will not be in any water (I don't trust kayaks now thank you Scott! 😂) however I will be using a rowing machine in order to complete the 100 mile challenge in his memory.
Right now, Mind’s phone lines are the busiest they’ve ever been. In the UK 1 in 4 of us will face a mental health problem this year, yet too many still wait in silence. Mind is often their only lifeline — on the phone, in local communities, and fighting for change so no one is left behind. Please support my 100 miles in March challenge by donating to my fundraising page 🙏🏻Your donation will ensure that information and support is available for everyone — on Mind's website, the helplines they run and throughout their online community, Side by Side. Thank you 💙
