Chase The Sun North 2025 · 21 June 2025 ·
*Update*
Well I did it. 200 miles from sunrise to sunset. Made it into Ayr with a couple of hours to spare before sunset (which was unfortunately a bit cloudy!). The first half of the ride in particular was spectacular, beautiful blue sky and not too warm going up through Northumberland. Scotland certainly didn't disappoint, but did deliver us quite a torrential downpour. Also Scottish councils, sort you're bloody roads out! I thought ours were bad! Lovely friendly supportive atmosphere throughout from other riders, volunteers and locals cheering us on. Thankfully my bike performed flawlessly throughout, and my legs just about kept spinning. I didn't quite hit the average speed I'd hoped for, having not ridden close to this distance before I certainly erred on the side of caution to avoid blowing myself up too early and just wanted to be sure I'd made the finish line. Mentally without doubt the hardest thing I've done, just convincing the legs to keep spinning away, with seemingly endless hills around each corner and road surfaces turning your wrists into mush.
Never again
Until next time...
Thank you so much for your donations to Macmillan Cancer Support.
On Saturday 21st June I will take part in Chase the Sun North, riding 200 miles between Whitley Bay and Ayr, starting at sunrise and (hopefully) arriving before sunset the same day. I will ride for Macmillan Cancer Support and hope to raise at least £400 with your contributions. We all know someone who has been effected by cancer, and my father is currently undergoing chemotherapy for prostate cancer. Any support you can offer will be greatly appreciated. I love riding bikes and it has become a huge passion of mine over the last few years, but this will no doubt be a huge challenge, my longest ride to date was only just over 100 miles so this challenge will require a lot of dedication and many hours of training. Thanks for your support and wish me luck!
