Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 6th October I will be walking the Clarendon Marathon (26.2 miles from Salisbury to Winchester) to raise money for Wessex Heartbeat.  Walking the Clarendon Way is one of my '40 before 40 challenges', and another 40 before 40 challenge is to raise £1000 for charity, so I'm hoping that sponsorship for the marathon will take me some way towards this target.  Not being a fan of sport or physical exercise, completing the training and the walk will present a significant personal challenge and commitment.  If you're interested to learn more about my 40 before 40 and follow my progress as I train, you can check out my blog at: www.chelseas40before40.wordpress.com

I have chosen to walk in support of Wessex Heartbeat because cardiac issues have affected many members of my family, all of whom have received excellent care at Southampton's Wessex Cardiac Centre.  The work of the Centre is supported and enhanced by Wessex Heartbeat, who not only assist the patients receiving care (and their families) but also provide clinical education and training and fund equipment and research.

This is a very personal cause for me as all generations of my family have been affected by heart disease.  My Mum, my Nan, my uncle and my cousin have had heart surgery and others in the family are being monitored by the hospital because they will need surgery one day in the future.  It is believed that there is some genetic link relating to the heart conditions, but sadly this was not discovered until we had lost my uncle, aged just 39, to an undiagnosed heart problem.
