My sister, Catherine and I, are sharing our family's story with you.

Following the devastating diagnosis of our mum with early onset Alzheimer's in 2015 at the age of 59, a day that turned our little world upside down and changed everything for us, we have decided to set ourselves a series of 4 challenges; 2 physical and 2 mental, throughout the year in her honour.

Despite being miles apart as I live in Altrincham and Cath in Toronto, Canada, we will complete the same challenges simultaneously. Starting with a 10km run, followed by learning the alphabet & 10 key phrases in a foreign language, then onto playing a full song on an instrument and ending the year with an ambitious and no doubt emotional, cycle the equivalent distance across the Atlantic, door-to-door, which is 5500km!

We wish to raise awareness, support and funds for much needed research for medical testing against this sad, heart-wrenching, destroying illness. Using social media and #sistersmakingmemories2017 we will share our story to a captive and supportive audience, looking for encouragement as we tackle the 4 challenges.

Cath will be raising funds for Alzheimer Society Canada http://www.alzheimer.ca/en Her JustGiving page will follow shortly whereby people can pay in Canadian dollars and receive a tax receipt.

Alzheimer’s Research UK, is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. The money raised will go towards pioneering work across Britain, focusing on preventing and treating dementia, while also raising awareness of the devastating condition.

Alzheimer’s Research UK powers world class studies focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatments for dementia. There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this number is expected to rise to over 1 million by 2025.
