Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So here's my X factor sob story:
Last year I innocently joined some staff after school on a Friday on the dance mats as a way of keeping fit. Little did I know that after the excesses of Christmas, this fun and enjoyable past time would be changed to a gym session. Not what I had in mind after a hard week at school. But I conquered my fear of the gym, and after the first two weeks was persuaded by some PE staff to run the half marathon in October. Cockily, I assumed I'd be fit as a fiddle by then, so signed up. And here we are with two weeks to go, and I'm not sure what I have done with my time apart from buy some very expensive trainers!
For those of you who follow my Facebook updates, you will have shared the pain that in a last ditch attempt to survive I have even joined a running club, where once a week I am humiliated as 60 year old men overtake me without breaking a sweat. But that, combined with dragging myself out on school nights and even weekends means that I'm goddamn getting there!
But why am I putting myself through this pain?!
Well, you all know how active I have been over the last four years in the campaign to end violence against women. I have helped organise numerous fundraisers and helped with producing and directing performances of The Vagina Monologues in Bristol, as well as performing in them, since 2006. But it is not just a play about women talking about their fannies. The Vagina Monologues raises money for the charity Vday, which is a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls.
Women aged 15-44 are more at risk from rape and domestic violence
than from cancer, car accidents, war and malaria, according to World
Bank data.
This year I double booked myself on a close friend's hen-do the weekend I was supposed to be on stage, so had to drop out of the cast, so Vday was the obvious charity for me to run for as it is so close to my heart (and other parts of my body!)
Please make it worth the sweat and the chafing by donating to this amazing charity. I have purchased a bra which has been coined 'the over the shoulder boulder holder' by the staff at school, so please give me a reason to wear it!
