Chris is climbing Kilimanjaro · 11 September 2013

Every year Cornwall Air Ambulance attends around 1000 Critical Care missions, delivering fast & effective emergency care to patients in their moment of need. As a charity, the air ambulance relies on the generosity of community groups, individuals and businesses to help raise over £8 million a year.

Story

UPDATE - I'M now up to £1250 with offline donations and really need your help to get me over the line. I have to raise a certain percentage by July 10th so all help is needed!

See futher down for a list of all the gifts you will get for your money!

My story...its more of a foolhardy adventure really.

Everyone likes to feel good and help others right?? By donating you not only get to feel good about yourself, but i've also thrown in some rewards and presents for those that do. They are at the end of this 'story'.

So.. I've signed up to climb Kilimanjaro in September in aid of the Cornwall Air Ambulance and now need your help.

As you all know, i'm probably not the fittest person you've ever met as my love of all things unhealthy (beer, whisky, cheese) far outweighs my love strenuous activity (walking to the shop for beer, whisky and cheese).  That said, I like a challenge and if Chris Moyles can get to the top, then I should at least give it a go.

As Cornwall has some quite remote locations and often with narrow windy roads, it means that land ambulances cannot always get to emergencies in the time required.  This is where the air ambulance does what it does, receiving no government funding in the process (which is so ridiculous as it saves lives every day, quite literally) and relying on good people to put their hands in their pocket and contribute.

It flies 365 days a year and attends over 1000 rescue missions each year and can be on the scene in 12 minutes from the 999 call being made.  This obviously makes such an impact for life threatening injuries and incidents.  Without the air ambulance, countless numbers of people simply wouldn’t be here today.

I've been lucky to have met many people who have been saved by the Air Ambulance during my time in Cornwall.  They are all so grateful for the service and meeting them is often an emotional affair.

If you thought that the hike will be too easy, I will also be creating a documentary of the trip that can be used for the Cornwall Air Ambulance.  So not only will I be hiking, but also with all my film equipment.

Now I understand that times are tough in the age of austerity, so just think what its like for the air ambulance who have to still go out and shake buckets and ask for help everyday.

In order to make the idea of handing money over a little more interesting, i've devised a series of rewards.  They are as follows;

£10 - you will receive a handwritten letter from myself, actually written on the trip.  It will contain all the inspirational quotes that I mustered during the trip and will probably have a little bit of sick on the paper.

£20 - As well as a letter, you will receive a personalised video message from myself at the summit.  Again, it will be very inspiration and poignant and probably make you cry.

£40 - You have the power to challenge me to any dare that you can muster.  I will not only complete the dare but will also video it, upload it to youtube and send you the link for you to do with it what you wish.  I challenge you to try and embarrass me as much as possible, as long as you pay.

£40 - A framed panoramic photograph taken from the summit, plus the vomit soaked letter and the teary video message

£50 - The framed panoramic photograph and x2 A4 sized prints of the beauty that is Tanzania (you can put in requests for what kind of shot you would like).  Also a cut of the documentary I am producing for the Air Ambulance.

£100 - All of the above.

£100 - A weeks stay in the lovely St Agnes where I will not only give you my room (whilst I camp in my garden) but also make you a cooked breakfast every morning.  I live 5 minutes from the beach so why not have your summer holiday here? £60 for a long weekend. Bargain.

The final reward is a weeks stay in my friends house (who is also on the trip) whilst we are away.  The dates available are 17th - 24th September.  It is also in St Agnes and near the beach.  I will be doing a silent auction for this and the highest bidder gets a holiday for a week.

If you like the idea of some of the rewards but not others, I can create a bespoke quote for you, just let me know.

So please be generous and help the Cornwall Air Ambulance, its such a great charity and needs your help everyday.

Plus you get to see me making an arse out of myself all over youtube.

Cheers

Chris
