Story

Ever since he was a young lad, cycling the length of Britain has been high up on my dad's bucket list...and though it's taken seven decades to realise this dream, he is finally donning the long socks and padded shorts!

Beginning on the 30th of May, his LEJOG journey will take 14 days and cover 1000 miles. So on average that will be 71 miles of pedalling a day - (miles to match his years!) - with more than a few hills thrown in for good measure. What makes this endeavor even more impressive is the fact that dad suffers from mitochondrial myopathy. This is a condition that causes muscle weakness and pain, but it has not stopped him from achieving some amazing sporting goals (it's a bit embarrassing really, when your old dad is fitter than you...)

Dad feels it is only right that his efforts generate some form of tangible outcome and have an impact on something other than his bottom. He has therefore chosen to raise money for the Great Western Air Ambulance; a charity that is particularly meaningful to our family, since the Air Ambulance provided such wonderful care to my granny at a desperate time. Any donations would be hugely welcomed to support them in the crucial and critical care that they provide to patients and their families.

Covid has delayed dad's adventure twice now, so here's hoping that third time's a charm. He will be accompanied by a team of like-minded old codgers, with family stationed along the way to provide some support. He will be passing through Bristol on the 2nd of June, so do look out for a sleek and stylish grandpa on wheels, whizzing through the city!!
