The Welsh Guards Charity has a number of objectives including commemoration, remembrance of those who have lost their lives or suffered injuries and to relieve persons who are serving or retired who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I think it is important to tell you a bit of my background first and then explain why I am doing this event.

I have served (and still serving) in the Welsh Guards for over 17 years, I have seen tours in Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan as an infantry soldier. Over the past 2 years I have been given the role of Welfare Non-Commissioned Officer and WISMIS (Wounded, Injured and Sick Management Information System) Manager for most of my post. I believe that the Welsh Guards Charity is an amazing cause and truly helps the serving soldiers, veterans and their families of the battalion and this is why I want to run this event.

Welsh Guards Charity Objectives

  • To promote the efficiency of the Welsh Guards, by fostering espirit de corps and by such other means as the trustees shall from time to time determine.
  • To commemorate and remember those members, or former members, of the Welsh Guards who have lost their lives or suffered injury, or put themselves at risk of loss of life or injury, in service to the public.
  • To relieve either generally or individually persons who are serving or who have served in the Welsh Guards or the dependants of such persons who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress.
  • To advance the education of the public, including members of the Welsh Guards, in the history, deeds, traditions and role of the Welsh Guards.

My Battalion is embarking on another tour of Afghanistan this year and as I'm not deploying I feel I have to do my bit, which is what brings me here.

About the Hike: My oldest friend, Gareth, and I wish to complete a hike from Llandudno (in North Wales) to Mumbles. We will do it self-sufficiently, camping and enduring the lovely Welsh weather and terrain of Snowdonia and Brecon Beacons, over 9 days. Gareth is hiking for his own charity that is close to his heart - Macmillan Cancer Support. We will update our progress during the hike and the build up to it on here and on Facebook.

Please give generously as I think this a very worthy cause to help our veterans and they're families through very difficult times as I think they have earned the support and guidance as once they served our armed forces and country, Thank you.
