Story
I am running the Manchester 10K on 20 May to raise money for PAPYRUS (Parents Association the Prevention of Young Suicide) who are a charity that raise awareness of the risk of suicide in young people and where to get help. The charity was formed in 1997 by Jean Kerr, a mother from Lancashire. She and a small group of parents who had each lost a child to suicide were convinced that that many young suicides are preventable. In England and Wales, suicide is the most common form of death in young people between the ages of 15 – 34 years.
A former colleague, Steve Curley who is a blue hat Supervisor for MPT/(Laing O Rourke on the East Didsbury Line of the Manchester Metrolink, tragically lost his daughter Emma who unexpectedly took her own life in December 2008 aged 25 years. Steve and Ann Curley have been actively involved in fundraising for PAPYRUS and raising awareness of young suicide.

The last time that I ran was over twenty years ago at school when I competed in cross country. Since then I have completed very little exercise and recently the wife commented ‘You are not really built for running’ – I will find out on the 20 May.
