Story

A little about me

My name is Chris a.k.a the Asthmatic Potato and this year I am running the Tough Mudder 10 Mile Challenge in aid of children's charity Kangaroos.

With the exception of attending the gym for a few months and running to the door to get the takeaway delivery, I have not really done any running since I left school which was way back in 2002. Why? I’m asthmatic. I hate running. Running is a really great way of tempting fate to trip you up and make you fall over. Do you want to know something I really like doing? Sitting!

Fewer people injure themselves by sitting down than when they are running. Never the less, I am now picking up the gauntlet and on the 21st September, I’ll be running with 100’s of other mad people in aid of Kangaroos Children's charity… what’s not to like? Other than the running… and the mud… and the running… so much running.

So why am I doing this? Other than running for a great cause, more of which you can find out about below, as I alluded to above, I have never done any form of endurance challenge event. Have I gone in at the deep end too soon and instead of doing the 10-mile run I should’ve signed up for the 5k? Only time and the doctors who will treat my exhaustion will be able to tell.

Who are Kangaroos?

If you want to check out their webpage you can do so here: https://www.kangaroos.org.uk/.

But if clicking on a link is too much for you, let me give you the low down or the “Too Long, Didn’t Read” (or TLDR as the cool kids say which I recently learned).

Kangaroos is a Sussex based children's charity aimed at providing fun and social activities in a supported setting for young people with learning disabilities. Kangaroos organise a range of different clubs and
activities for children, young adults and families and this year they organised a trip to Disney Land for a number of their young joeys (because joeys are young Kangaroos, get it?).

There are thousands of charities all around the world crying out for donations from people like you and me, so why Kangaroos? If, like me, you believe that charity starts at home, then look no further than the charities which support our future generations because without charities like Kangaroos, a lot of disadvantaged children and young adults could be far worse off in life.
