Story
Despite a catastrophic lack of training and preparation consisting of three weeks on holiday, I'll be running the Great North Run on Sunday 15th September.
I've chosen to run for the charity Mind, who look to help anyone in society that is struggling with a mental health issue.
The charity is not close to me, my family, or any of my friends (at least as far as I am aware). However mental health remains an issue that too few in society are ready to speak about openly - every year, some 1 in 4 people will suffer from a mental health problem, be it a panic attack, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, depression, or many more similar troubles. Often, these people are left to fight alone, too scared to seek help that they would not think twice about getting if their problem was a physical one.
I chose this charity because I believe it to be a hugely worthy cause. By running for Mind, I hope to raise awareness of mental health issues and funds for combating them. Any donation - however small (or big!) - is hugely appreciated.
